HAWTHORN DENE PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT

 Dates: Thursday 16th & 23rd May, 1-4pm

Meet at: The Barn at Easington, Thorpe Lea East Farm, Easington Colliery SR8 3UT

Using as inspiration a recently discovered album of photographs that belonged to the Pemberton estate and pictures from local residents, photographer Sharon Bailey will lead a workshop and photography walk around Hawthorn Dene to discover the remains of buildings and gardens including the Coastguard Cottages, Sailor’s Hall and the site of Hawthorn Towers. Most of the remains are buried in undergrowth or literally cast down banks in the woods. But the atmosphere of a lost way of life, still within living memory, is all the more powerful because of its almost hidden traces amongst the proliferation of Nature. Photography can be used as an investigative and creative medium to reflect on and bring these memories back to life.

Aimed at ages 16+

Workshops are FREE – booking required
