East Durham Creates has relaunched our latest Lets Create Commissioning scheme!
We have launched our new 2019 round of Let’s Create funding, where local community groups, artists and creative businesses can apply up to £2,000 to make creative projects happen in East Durham. If you have received Let’s Create funding before you can still apply as long as it’s a new idea. So if you have a great creative idea or art project, we would love to hear from you.
Over the last year we’ve funded activities that have engaged hundreds of local people in the arts. Here’s just a few:
- Shotton Community Centre developed their arts offering by running a series of experimental multi-art form workshops culminating in a talent showcase event in March 2019. The project engaged over 200 people.
- The Barn at Easington created a series of artistic walks utilising the natural landscape around their venue, which featured work inspired by the theme of Pilgrimages and the work of artists like Andy Goldsworthy who use nature as their canvas. The project engaged over 100 people.
More events coming in the next year include everything from a series of participatory workshops to create an original piece of theatre, a project creating banners and flags from large-scale textile cyanotype prints utilising participants own shapes and bodies with artist Lindsay Duncanson, a participatory dance project working with artistic director and dancer Alys North and more. Keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for more information about Let’s Create activities happening near you.
Who Can Apply?
As in previous years, we are seeking applications from general community groups who wish to increase their involvement in the arts, but in addition to this we are keen to encourage local art groups and individual artists to apply. For community groups we expect the application to reflect new people becoming involved in the arts as audiences or participants. For arts groups and individuals we would expect to see increased engagement, but we would also hope to see to see potential around increasing commercial viability or sustainability. We are particularly keen to link artists up with business development agencies and extra resource is available to resource this.
Applicants should be a constituted group with a bank account or in the case of individuals see themselves as an existing or potential business.
Application can be downloaded here:
The fund is managed by East Durham Trust who are experts in offering services and support to all sorts of local community groups. East Durham Trust staff are happy to support applicants throughout the process. Ultimately a panel, made up of local community volunteers will make the decision as to whether an application has been successful.
If you would like to discuss a proposal or require additional information please contact Colin at East Durham Trust on 0191 5693511 or email email@example.com
