East Durham Creates and our Community Panel are looking for an artist to start working this summer with young people in the East Durham area on a project around connection.

East Durham Creates began the third phase of delivery of our Creative People and Places project in January 2021. EDC has a strong track record of cultural democracy and engaging local communities in all elements of delivery as well as working with those who are not regular engagers with arts and culture, particularly via our lead organisation local charity East Durham Trust.

Our Community Panel is made up of local representatives who help to shape the art by and for their local communities and includes councillors, teachers, community centre leaders, artists and community activists.

The Panel would like an artist or arts organisation to work with young people in the 14-21 age bracket within East Durham. The project should be shaped by the artist working collaboratively with young people and have engagement and co-production at its heart.

We are particularly interested in projects that could engage with specific groups such as:

-Young People with SEND

-Young Carers

-Young Men

There is no specification about art form. The project should focus on young people creating connections with each other and their community regardless of whether it is required to be delivered in person, digitally or inclusive of ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

EDC can support the applicant with identifying and linking in with partners and youth groups but artists may also wish to come to the project with an identified group if they have previously worked in the East Durham area with young people. We would expect the project to culminate in some sort of sharing event – this should be designed and developed as part of the project.

The total fee for the work inclusive of all costs is £2,500.

The proposed timeline for the project delivery is between August to December 2021.

Project proposals should be no more than one side of A4 including a budget/breakdown of costs. You may also include examples of previous work. These proposals should be submitted to East Durham Creates by 9am on 16th July 2021.

Proposals and any queries should be submitted to Amy Mitchell at amy.mitchell@eastdurhamcreates.co.uk. We are keen to make our application process as accessible as possible. If you need this information in another format or to submit proposals by video application please get in touch on 0191 5693511.
